Man Ray exhibition: "Le Beau Temps
This exhibition, currently on show at the Musée des Cultures et du Paysage in Hyères, is divided into four parts and offers a complete panorama of Man Ray's different periods in a magnificent setting.
- The must-haves Photographs, paintings, drawings, films and three-dimensional works all bear witness to the influence of light and the landscapes of the South on the Surrealist artist's career. On display here are photographs by Emmanuel Radnitsky, known as Man Ray, including rayograms, Le Violon d'Ingres, Noire et blanche, Larmes and La Prière, as well as fashion photos published in magazines such as Vanity Fair.
- Villa Noailles From 1927 onwards, Man Ray frequented a couple of patrons of the arts, the Viscount Charles de Noailles and his wife Marie-Laure de Noailles. This part of the exhibition will present portraits of the Noailles couple, photographs of receptions from the period, a portrait of Robert Mallet-Stevens, a painting exhibited for the first time in France, M et Mme le vicomte de Noailles, and photographs of the Villa Noailles.
- The gallery of surrealists Composed mainly of portraits of avant-garde artists, including André Breton, Paul Éluard, Max Ernst, Jean Cocteau, Jean Arp, Yves Tanguy, Pablo Picasso, René Char, Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miro and Louis Aragon.
- Le Sud Photographs of Man Ray on the Cote d'Azur: this section presents photographs of Man Ray's various stays on the Cote d'Azur at the beach or during meals with friends. During these stays, the artist took the opportunity to test the new colour films (photo and film) given to him by Kodak.
